Basalt forms when lava cools quickly, which is why its structure is fine-grained and dense. In practice that means low water absorption, high freeze resistance and strong wear resistance — making it one of the more sensible choices for the Georgian climate.
Its colour runs naturally from dark grey to almost black and, unlike granite, barely fades in sun. A facade laid today still reads in the same tone five years on — provided the blocks were selected from a single horizon.
We work basalt in four distinct surfaces. The choice depends less on aesthetics than on where the stone will sit and what load it will take.

Low absorption means frozen water does not break the stone apart from inside — decisive in mountain regions and on exposed facades.
UV barely shifts basalt tone. A south elevation does not drift away from a north one.
High density holds the surface even in heavy traffic — plazas, entrances, stairs.
